أعلنت الخارجية الأميركية أن واشنطن وافقت على بيع منظومة عتاد عسكري مخصصة لاعتراض الطائرات المسيّرة، لإسرائيل بقيمة 992.4 مليون دولار.
وقالت صحيفة «هآرتس» العبرية، إنه بموجب الاتفاقية ستزود الولايات المتحدة تل أبيب بـ10 آلاف مجموعة -منخفضة التكلفة نسبياً من منظومة «أدفانسد بريسيجن كيل ويبون سيستم» (APKWS) لاعتراض الطائرات المسيّرة.
وأوضحت الصحيفة أن هذه المنظومة تقوم بتحويل صواريخ «جو-أرض» غير الموجهة، إلى ذخائر موجهة بدقة قادرة على ضرب أهداف أرضية، مبيّنةً أن أهم مميزات المنظومة هي اعتراض الطائرات المسيّرة.
لكن رغم الفعالية العالية لمنظومة (APKWS) -بحسب الصحيفة- فإنها غير قادرة على اعتراض المسيّرات الموجهة سلكياً الخاصة بحزب الله.
وأضافت «النظام أثبت فعاليته ضد الذخائر الجوالة مثل مسيّرات «شاهد» الإيرانية، لكنه لم يُصمم لمواجهة الطائرات المسيّرة الصغيرة التي أصبحت تؤرق الجيش الإسرائيلي جنوبي لبنان، ويستخدمها حزب الله بكثافة.
ونقلت الصحيفة عن مسؤولين إسرائيليين قولهم إن الجيش الإسرائيلي يواجه تحدياً متزايداً من الطائرات المسيّرة التي تنجح في التهرب من أنظمة الدفاع الجوي.
ويقدّر الجيش الإسرائيلي أن حزب الله قد يزيد من إطلاق مثل هذه المسيّرات على المستوطنات وقوات الجيش الإسرائيلي في جنوب لبنان في الأيام المقبلة.
The US State Department announced that Washington has approved the sale of a military system designed to intercept drones to Israel, valued at $992.4 million.
According to Haaretz, under the deal the United States will supply Israel with 10,000 relatively low-cost kits of the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) for intercepting drones.
The system converts unguided air-to-ground rockets into precision-guided munitions capable of striking ground targets, with one of its key features being drone interception.
However, despite its high effectiveness, the system is not capable of intercepting Hezbollah’s wire-guided drones.
The newspaper added that while the system has proven effective against loitering munitions such as Iranian “Shahed” drones, it was not designed to counter small drones increasingly troubling the Israeli army in southern Lebanon and used extensively by Hezbollah.
Israeli officials say the army is facing a growing challenge from drones that are able to evade air defense systems, with estimates that Hezbollah may increase such drone launches against settlements and Israeli forces in southern Lebanon in the coming days.
