حذّرت المصلحة الوطنية لنهر الليطاني من خطورة استهداف محيط سد القرعون، بعد الغارات الإسرائيلية الأخيرة التي طالت الطريق المحاذية للسد في البقاع الغربي، مؤكدة أن أي ضرر مباشر أو غير مباشر قد يؤدي إلى تداعيات كارثية على المناطق الواقعة أسفل السد.
وأوضحت المصلحة أن الطريق المستهدفة تُعد جزءاً من جسم السد والمنشآت المرتبطة به، ما يستدعي أعلى درجات الحذر والمتابعة التقنية والهندسية للحفاظ على السلامة العامة.
كما أشارت إلى أن سد القرعون يُعتبر منشأة مدنية استراتيجية مرتبطة بالأمن المائي والطاقة والري في لبنان، محذّرة من أن أي خلل إنشائي أو استهداف قد يتسبب بفيضانات وأضرار واسعة على السكان والبنى التحتية.
وأرفقت المصلحة دراسة أعدّتها الوكالة الأميركية للتنمية الدولية حول سيناريوهات انهيار السد والمناطق المعرّضة للخطر، داعيةً المسؤولين اللبنانيين إلى التحرّك دبلوماسياً لتحييد السد ومنشآت الليطاني عن أي اعتداءات، باعتبارها منشآت مدنية يحظر استهدافها وفق القانون الدولي.
The National Litani River Authority warned of the dangers of targeting the surroundings of the Qaraoun Dam following recent Israeli airstrikes that hit the road adjacent to the dam in the western Bekaa, stressing that any direct or indirect damage could lead to catastrophic consequences for areas located downstream.
The authority explained that the targeted road is considered part of the dam’s structure and its associated facilities, which requires the highest levels of caution and technical and engineering monitoring to preserve public safety.
It also pointed out that the Qaraoun Dam is regarded as a strategic civilian facility linked to Lebanon’s water security, energy supply, and irrigation sector, warning that any structural damage or targeting could cause floods and widespread destruction affecting residents and infrastructure.
The authority attached a study prepared by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) concerning dam-collapse scenarios and areas exposed to danger, calling on Lebanese officials to move diplomatically in order to shield the dam and Litani facilities from any attacks, considering them civilian installations protected under international law.
